James Cookson (6 December 1904 – December 1970), better known as Jimmy Cookson, was an English footballer who played as a centre-forward.
Cookson was born in Manchester. He turned professional with Manchester City in August 1923 before moving on to Chesterfield in April 1925. In Chesterfield he was the leading goalscorer of the Third Division North in the season 1925–26 with 44 goals.[1] In August 1927 he joined West Bromwich Albion for a fee of £2500. Later in his career he played for Plymouth Argyle and Swindon Town before retiring in May 1938 to become a publican. He died in Warminster in 1970.
